The Role of the Manager in Criminal Justice Organizations

Introduction

The government system or intuition responsible for developing and maintaining social decorum, deterring and mitigating crime, called criminal justice. This system empowered by the government and structured by law enforcing agencies has the authority to sanction penalties to those involved in violating state law, and also responsible for the rehabilitation process. The accused have the right to be protected against any abuse during the investigation process. The operation of criminal justice is under the discretionary authority, which includes the court system, law enforcement agencies and corrections.

Criminal justice system consists of three major sections, Legislative, adjudication and corrections. The legislative consists of the police department making sure the implementation of laws and taking measure against violations. Adjudication consists of law courts, where settlement of presented disputes is on the basis of state law. Courts consist of critical personals including, the judge, and the prosecutor and defense attorney. Lastly correction authorities represent s the facilities where accused when found guilty, presented for asylum and commencement of sentence. This includes the jails and prison in the state and the enforcement of law in these facilities (Gibson, B, Cavadino, P, & Faulkner, D. 2008).

As we have discussed, various components of the criminal justice system it is necessary to understand the role of a manager and the overall management in criminal justice organizations. The role of management in criminal justice organization may range from police chief of a town to the director of the criminal justice organization or any crime fighting agency. Then management team of criminal justice system may include correction officers, line officers, court officers, parole and probation officers, along with other administrative personnel required in the operation of the system. Studies identify different types of the management system and sciences that are applicable to a criminal justice organization and the roles and responsibilities of a manager in such organizations.

Like any other organization, criminal justice agencies required the management to cope up with numerous issues. Issues relating to crime prevention, arbitration, offences by criminals and proper commencement of sentences and punishments, needs to be appropriately managed. Studies and management sciences developed over the years provide possibilities for the enforcement of different styles of management into the system. These styles vary on the basis of their requirements and appropriateness with the component of criminal justice system, to which they apply. Following are the categories of management systems used in criminal justice organizations (Allen, J. & Sawhney, R. 2009).
