Increasing Rate of the Homicides Cases in My Community

Introduction

Homicide is the first word which comes to mind when we think about any brutal crime. Homicide refers to cases in which one human being is brutaly killed by another. It includes all those events and incidents in which killing is a crime and also those incidents in which it is not a crime and justified by the legal system. According to the law, homicide is acceptable if a person is killed by a private citizen or by a law enforcement agency while on duty and that person is in the course of committing a felony offense. Homicides can be differentiated in terms of whether they are criminal or noncriminal. (Irving, 2009)

Homicides are a common problem in most of the parts of the communities in Puerto Rico. Here in my community, homicide is one of the leading causes of death that have occured. This problem is prevailing since a very long time due to which many innocent people have died. The victims are from both genders having age of 30 years approx. The common methods used for this purpose are through firearms, by knives and other sharp instruments, body arms like hands, feet, fists, and blunt objects like club, hammer and other weapons. As time passes homicide is increasing for different reasons. The major reason for homicide are breakup in a relationship and the victim is usually the spouse. Mental, physical illness and financial stress are the second main reasons for homicides. Criminal behavior was also found in some of the cases and alcohol was detected in assailant. (Gallup-Black, 2005)

Although this problem is prevailing for the past ten years but with the increasing population, homicides is also increasing and it is very difficult to overcome it. The gangs in my community are responsible for the increasing account of homicide victims. These gangs only care of these spots where they distribute the drugs and they kill innocent people in order to have the total control of the area.

Mostly the families are suffering from this cruelty in the community as almost every day a son or dad falls prey to these gangs. This leaves a very bad impact on the psychology of kids as they are not able to visit the parks and play with the other kids. The children always carry the burden of cruelty with ...
