Motivation is a technique that is generally used by the organizations to acknowledge the work done by their employees & also to boost them to do perform even better in the future. It is a driving force for every employee in a company and it also helps in creating the much needed passion and interest for the work.

Workplace Motivation has become a necessity in today's corporate world. Workplace motivation has gone amiss in a majority of present day offices.

A common workplace attitude that is spreading like an epidemic among most organizations is employees just about working from one day to another till the pay day arrives as there is no motivation.

There are two basic types of motivation techniques being used by organizations nowadays:

1. Cash based

2. non-cash based

CASH BASED

These are motivators in the form of or lump-sum cash payments or cash rewards. These rewards have a direct impact on the behavior of an employee; however, these rewards are not associated with the basic salary of the employee.

Many of the organizations nowadays are using this method of motivating employees, the organizations use techniques like declaring bonus for their outstanding employees.

TYPES OF MOTIVATION TECHNIQUES

Non-Cash Techniques

The non-cash motivation techniques include motivators in the form of awards, gifts, merchandise, , vacation plans, etc. These incentives differ as according to the designation of the employee. What a manager gets will not necessarily be given to the entry employee as well.

Workplace motivation can also suffer due to improper infrastructural support and outdated equipment. Entrenched attitude of certain employees is yet another barrier that motivation has to overcome. Some of the major hurdles in implementing workplace motivation are employees' qualms about overtime, work being out of their job description or a clueless manager. Another major pitfall of workplace motivation is that it may cause insecurity among managers if the organization indulges in de-layering and flattening of hierarchies. Such a motivation model can also lead to lower staff morale. As the work environments in most companies keep evolving, motivation should keep pace with the same. Always remember that workplace motivation is the foundation for higher employee productivity and greater employee happiness.
