CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Climate change has become an important issue, which requires urgent and coordinated global response to itself. To help address global warming, the Irish are on a road cut about 60% of its carbon dioxide emissions compared to 2000 levels, real progress in 2050, 2020 itself. This is a more ambitious commitment by the Irish in accordance with the by mid-century goal of 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in October 2008. This commitment will be required to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors, including housing industry.

Background of the research

Zero carbon is not widespread at present, although the 21 million families in Ireland are responsible for 27% of the carbon dioxide emissions. Some owners try to implement sustainable development through energy-saving light bulbs from the cooling system. Although this contribution is important, there is a lot more carbon emission. In the right direction it can see the bigger leap forward with the development of zero carbon housing project developers, environmentalists and architects in Ireland some embellishment.

Problem Statement

Climate change has become an important issue, which requires urgent and coordinated global response to itself. Therefore, the home builders are under increasing pressure to provide a sustainable and affordable housing, and increase the annual productivity to 24 million units

Rationale

Before achieving carbon or near zero carbon housing, there are significant obstacles to overcome, but the good news is that this is possible. What is the real definition of zero carbon and how to measure it, is to create a common framework for sustainable construction.

Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the study are to

Determine the drivers to achieve zero carbon homes by 2016.

Investigate the technology which shall be used in order to achieve zero carbon homes by 2016.

Investigate the economical feasibility of the construction of zero carbon homes.

Investigate the skill and training required to achieve zero carbon homes.

Identify the roles and responsibilities of different parties in order to achieve zero carbon homes.

Research Question/Hypothesis

The study will aim to answer the following research questions:

Is the Irish government's plan to cut down Carbon dioxide emission by 60% till 2050 a feasible proposition?

What steps should be taken to ensure that the plan is achieved?

What technology which shall be used in order to achieve zero carbon homes by 2016.

What are the roles and responsibilities of different parties in order to achieve zero carbon homes?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of sustainable buildings?

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code of Sustainable Homes is a system of environmental impact assessment for properties in England and Wales. This new set of measures for energy efficiency (up to current building codes) and sustainability, which are not mandatory under ciphers actual construction, but they constitute a significant advance to restrict the ecological impact housing. The Code complements the scheme introduced Energy Performance Certificates houses in 2008 in ...
