ANDREA LEE'S “ANTHROPOLOGY”

Thesis Statement

This is a story about blacks and whites, or men and women? The narrator wonders at the end of "The Chair", one of the tales in the new collection by Andrea Lee, interesting women.

Central Idea

This is a question which you could try to ask about the book, most of which concerns the tensions between blacks and whites, Americans and Europeans, who are married to each other. The narrator of "President" (as herself Li) in an upper middle class, Harvard-educated black woman, she recalls, in a condescending way, about her white husband, who once helped register black voters in Alabama (Andrea Pp. 10) and stole a kiss daughter black preacher. And yet it is a kiss, not voter registration, which is constrained by the narrator at the end of the story. This focus is typical. The best pieces in this collection often seek to make clear that any color, character, perhaps the real subject of this conflict and negotiation is not between races and between sexes.

If Lee knows something about "Stranger in a Strange Land, it is not only the exiles. In the" Golden Chariot ", middle-class black family takes a cross-country trip from Philadelphia to Seattle in 1962, and has an excellent line at the end of history" mixed form of "citizenship of black Americans, who" moved across our country, feeling nervous, as foreigners, and at the same time, knowing that every speck of dust was ours. "token of gratitude to the paradox of the author's best writing - and may explain her life, too. In "Anthropology" article she wrote about the reaction of her high-caste, pale-skinned Southern relatives in the article she wrote about them (in which she described as their "black")the author admits frustration living in the country, which reduces everything to black or white;. Reasonable countries where they take the nuances, "she quoted her cousin, a scientist on the subject (Andrea Pp. 11).

Stories that openly about race, but a cool, humor, or, indeed, the nuances that you find in her stories about Italy. "Dancing with Josephine" is typical: in it, a neat black American, was resting with her white husband, calls the old white guy to think that she is a girl of the island, it was possible for the price of Coca-Cola, only to reveal who she is business on the last page.
