Introduction

Internet is a platform which provides their users to access a sea of information in which both the authentic and unauthentic information is present. The sources available on the internet which provides information either it is a webpage of information available on the libraries does not prove its authenticity or does not ensure student or user that it is 100% authentic or fake. It is the responsibility and duty of the user to evaluate that the given information on the respective internet page is authentic or not. To evaluate the information credibility on the internet, there are many tools are available that can be used to evaluate the information of the internet page. The most common and effective tool is the history and accuracy of the webpage (Smith, 2001). For example, Wikipedia is more authentic and provides more credible information as compared to other webpages available on the internet. Similarly, the domains which fall under the supervision of government are considered as credible source of information. In this essay, we are going to find the answers of three basic questions related to the credibility and authenticity of information available on the internet. These questions include, what solutions have been proposed for helping users evaluate Web-based information? How do we teach the library users the value of seeking sources outside of the Internet? And what types of life-long learning opportunities and skills are important to achieve a realistic balance in the use of electronic and print resources?

Internet

Internet is a collection of networks of computers in the world. In this network, all networks can have approached each other without any formal censorship. Today, it is becoming a way to communicate by e-mail; for example, among Internet users in Jerusalem and among Internet users in San Francisco in the United States. There major benefit is the ability of an institution or company in any country in the world to display their information and their products so that any Internet user in the world has access to this information and even the transfer of information of interest to the apparatus. For example, use of internet for getting information from libraries.

More and more people are using the rapidly expanding internet (WWW) to perform research, purchase goods, and conduct other activities. The good and the bad is that the internet enables users to access considerable amounts of information and that anyone can put anything on the internet, with some exceptions such as child pornography and government and industrial secrets. Anyone that has a registered domain name and minimal web development skills can post a website, credible or not. Unlike peer-reviewed and other verified materials, a substantial portion of the "facts" on the web have not been reviewed extensively for accuracy, and in some cases, may be false, deceptive, and misleading. Web users must rely on their own judgment to determine the validity and reliability of website information.
