Q. 1. What are the key ethical principles relating to research in educational settings?

Research activities have the possibility of raising attention to the ethics of certain actions. In the field of education which includes professional work, research of a diverse nature, and varied theoretical and methodological perspectives, ethical propositions multiply and are often particularised. This means that it is lawful to carry out the purposes by any given time to the educational researcher. At the same time, the integrity of many institutions (schools, hospitals, prisons), which may be at different stages of educational research, should be preserved.

Particular attention should be paid during educational research to marginalised groups, children with special needs and disadvantaged populations as they are more vulnerable. It must be considered that ethically incorrect practices may call into question, and even discredit the actions of an investigator, a group of researchers and the institutions they represent. Following are the four ethical principles that should be considered by the researcher during a study being conducted inside an educational organisation:

Firstly, the principle is Compliance with protocol. The researchers must need to learn how the participants should get informed with the ways of participation and how it can be gained recorded and how the data can be collected. Through this the participants also get informed about the rights they should get.

The other principle is to inform the consent. All the potential participants should remain informed in the understandable condition about the benefits, risks and the inconvenience which are associated with the research.

The third principle should be the Openness and integrity. The researchers must be open and honest in regards to the purpose and content of their research and should learn how to behave in a right manner at all times.

Fourth is the Protection from the harm. Researchers must also make all of the efforts in minimizing the risk factors which would harm either in the psychological or physical manner.

Another principle is the confidentiality of the information. Excluding the point where the explicit content id highlighted, the researcher must know how to respect and preserve the confidentiality of the data and the identities of the participants.

Q. 2. Describe the basic steps involved in conducting research and connect these to what they might look like for an educator conducting classroom based research.

Stage 1: General Design Project

This will help to define a research scheme, the study area, the selection and possible means and resource requirement.

Step 2: Identification of the Problem

This phase should aim to identify important problem areas that the teacher have identified while analyzing the participants, which were involved in the research. For example students that special students having dyslexia might find it hard to understand the lesson taught to them in class. So it would be essential for the teachers to adopt a new methodology to teach them (Blankenship, 2012).

Stage 3: Problem Analysis

This phase is important in the sense that it can reveal the underlying causes of the problem, help to understand the fundamental nature of ...
