Explanation of why insulin in camel milk is not digested by the human stomach

Many studies about camel milk and cow milk have shown that many of the hormones and the protein it contains cannot be destroyed in normal digestion. In addition, it has been found to contain a large amount of insulin, which means that insulin can be delivered directly to the blood as insulin, rather than as an amino acid like in the normal stages in digestion of protein (Zagorski, Maman et al, 1989). Many studies about camel milk and cow milk have shown that many of hormones and the protein it contains cannot be destroyed in normal digestion. In addition, it has been found to contain a large amount of insulin, which means that insulin can be delivered directly to the blood as insulin, rather than as an amino acid like in the normal stages in digestion of protein (Zagorski et al, 1989). The milk of the camel has traditionally been used to treat diabetes. Surprisingly, camel milk does seem to contain high levels of insulin or an insulin-like protein which appears to be able to pass through the stomach without being destroyed. The stomach's acidity normally destroys insulin, but insulin that is found in camel milk cannot be digested by the human stomach. It is possible because the insulin that is found in camel milk cannot form coagulum with acid. This lack of ability to form coagulum allows the insulin to pass without breaking down in the human stomach.

Indigestibility of Camel's Insulin
