Communication

Introduction

Intercultural communication has an impact because of the changes happening by internal and external factors. In this context, communication considered as one of the most key factor. Communication helps everyone to mingle with the society. Theorists are very much concerned about the process of communication among different cultures (Miric, 2006, pp. 79 - 84). These days communication and culture become interdependent on one another. This term is not new for the people who are from different cultures. It is a contextual, interpretive, transactional process in which the difference among people is large and significant enough to produce dissimilar expectations and interpretations.

Body movement

When, a person is speaking, so their speech is continuously showing some facial expressions, gestures and other movements of the body. These show that what they are actually saying in different ways (Allwood,n.d., pp. 4-15). In different cultures, there is different meaning of every single thing a person is doing. Let's take a look on some examples.

Saying hello in USA means that you are waving with happiness and your hand are moving completely but if u do the same in England so that show a sign of “no”. Greece considers this sign as an insult (DeVito, 2002, pp. 136).

V is popular for the victory, but if u does this in England, so it is an insult that you are facing your palm. It is similar as raising the middle finger in USA (DeVito, 2002, pp. 136).

In most of the countries of Asia and US, hugs scarcely exchanged among people, but, in Southern Europe and latin, people do not hug each other so that shows unfriendliness (DeVito, 2002, pp. 136).

Sound and writing

Writing and sound is the most traditional difference between different communities. Different communities have different ways of writing something as they spell words differently; use different kinds of fonts and upper cases etc. considering a common word “organization”, in USA people use it like “organization” where as In UK people spell it like “organisation” (Allwood, n.d., pp. 4-15). These differences create a lot of misunderstandings.
