Fifth Cranial Nerve

Fifth Cranial Nerve

Introduction

This paper intends to discuss the anatomy of the fifth cranial nerve from its origins in the brain to the site of action. The basic medical term used for the fifth cranial nerve is the 'trigeminal nerve'; however it is also called fifth nerve or CNV. The trigeminal nerve is the fifth cranial nerve is the largest nerve in the facial aesthetic and neighboring tissues. It also provides motor innervation STOU masseter (chewing function). Cranial nerves or cranial nerves are twelve pairs of nerves that branch from the base of the brain or brainstem level and emerge through the holes in the base of the skull , distributed by the head, the neck, the chest and belly (Meredith M, 2001, p.5-10). The International Anatomical Nomenclature includes the nerve terminal as cranial nerve, despite being atrophic in humans and closely related to the olfactory nerve. This paper will focus on the several main aspects like the peripheral anatomy and central anatomy. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader analyze the significance of the fifth cranial nerve and its anatomy starting from the origin in the brain to the site of action.

Origin Of The Fibers Of The Cranial Nerves

Cranial nerves are apparent origin that is where it leaves or enters the brain. The real origin is different according to the function they perform. The cranial nerve fibers with motor function (efferent) originate from cell groups which are located deep in the brain stem (nucleus engines) and are homologous to the anterior horn cells of the spinal cord (Monkhouse, 2006). The cranial nerve fibers with sensitive or sensory function (afferent) have their origin cells (nuclei of first order) outside the brain stem, usually in glands which are homologous to the dorsal root of the spinal nerves. The sensory nuclei of the second order are located in the brainstem.

Trigeminal nerve is the fifth cranial nerve, located in the brainstem surface the pons central ventrolateral side, by a feeling of coarse roots and fine movement root, trigeminal sensory fibers from the bottom half months unipolar nerve ganglia false yuan, its central conflict clustered into the trigeminal sensory root length of 19.6mm, a width of 4.7mm, 2mm thick backwards within the party since the petrous bone into the pons finally brainstem within trigeminal nucleus and the spinal trigeminal nucleus divided into three Ganzhi: eyes by its surrounding sudden, maxillary nerve mandibular nerve distribution to the skin and mucous membranes of the head, Secretary temperature sensation, pain and tactile conduction (Fuller, Burger, 1990, p. 279-83).

The nerve sprouts from the brain stem and enters the temporal bone which forms the gassereio ganglion which is located in a cavity of the bone cavity called Meckle. The gassereio ganglion is divided into three main branches that innervate the face.
