NURSING CV ESSAY

Nursing CV essay

Nursing CV essay

Introduction

This nursing CV essay is a detailed review of an enhanced Curriculum Vitae that provides a detailed overview of the skills and professional competencies possessed by me in the course of life. The enhanced CV is attached in Appendix I. Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) has defined the four domains of competencies for nursing. The four domains defined by NMC include professional values, interpersonal and communication skills, nursing practice and decision making, leadership, management and team working (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2010). These domains are taken as a framework in this essay to provide a detailed overview regarding the way the events and experiences of my life have enhanced my skills, understanding and knowledge in these four regions. In my Curriculum Vitae, there several of my skills and competencies are present. However, in this essay, only the skills and competencies that are related to the four major domains of nursing skills that are described by NMC are included and expanded. As all the domains of NMC are linked to each other in one way or the other, a few of my skills and competencies may seem to overlap each other. However, their distinctiveness to each domain is elaborated in a clear manner.

Discussion

Delivering high quality, safe patient care does not rely solely on the clinical skill of those who are treating and caring for patients. High quality, safe patient care also involves teamwork, communication, leadership and a culture where health professionals can discuss patient safety and experience issues openly with peers, senior clinicians, nurses and midwives, healthcare managers, and with patients themselves. There are four major domains defined by NMC, professional values, interpersonal and communication skills, nursing practice and decision making, leadership, management and team working. All the attributes that should be possessed by a nurse are clearly defined by each of these domains in Nursing and Midwifery Council. A reflection of these domains as far as my nursing career has progressed is discussed below.

Professional Values

Professional values are the first competency that is defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2010). Professionalism is defined as a constant display of the core values that are evidenced by nurses who are working with people belonging to other professions in order to achieve optimal wellness and health outcomes in communities, families, and patients by appropriate application of principles of ethics, caring, respect, altruism, accountability, and communication (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2008, p. 26). Professional values of nursing are those values that guide the actions and the decisions that are made by nurses throughout their nursing career. Therefore, professional values serve as the basic principle for the practice of nursing. Practicing the profession of nursing with an appreciation of human dignity, care, and respectfulness leads to a sense of fulfilment and honour. As a nurse, I have been introduced by the core values that a professional nurse should be aware of. I am well aware of the core values of nursing and ...
