Semantics of spatial prepositions

In the mainstream of L2 teaching and learning, the spatial prepositions have taken a long way to find a way in the research field. As is pointed out by Littlemore &Low (2006a), “in recent years, there has been a growing interest in the problems that figurative language poses for foreign language learners, how learners cope with figurative language, how they learn it, and what sort of instruction facilitates the ability to communicate in the short term, and learn in the long term. However, in contrast to the vast literature on metaphor as a linguistic and cognitive issue in general, metaphor in L2 teaching and learning has only been investigated in limited depth and scope.
