Project Management at Orange Telecom

Introduction

The scope of project management is not limited to the application of project management tools and processes; rather, it illustrates the concepts applied for managing team, allocating job activities, leadership approaches, and other similar concepts. A successful project results from successful completion of the five phases of project management (Blackstone, 2009). It requires not only time and resources but also skills and expertise for effective management of a project.

This paper aims to discuss the project management activities, which were conducted during a project at Orange Telecom. The paper reflects how project team was selected for the purpose of accomplishing project milestones. It illustrates the approach of managing team, leadership, and management, in order to streamline communication. Further, the paper identifies the approach of resolving issues, within a project team, as it can restrain a team from delivering the project deliverables as per the requirement. Lastly, the paper analyzes the project closing phase and its impact on the project team.

Project Specifications

The project is about creation of a quality process on a new chat system, which is used by Orange Telecom. The purpose of this chat system is to facilitate clients with technical and non-technical support. The quality process would ensure that the chat system facilitate communication between support staff and clients. Also, the process would ensure that support quality is managed and maintain with optimum efficiency.

The selection of a project team is the next step after the development of project scope, in the form of project charter document. For the creation of a quality process, the first step was development of a selection criterion, which would enable the identification of roles and responsibilities. During the selection of project team, the following characteristics were sought in the team members:

Technical Competency: The project needed a team, which had the desired technical knowledge of implementing a quality process on a new chat system. Therefore, the team must possess the knowledge and skills besides other capabilities.

Sensitivity: The team must possess the characteristic of identifying conflicts among the team members. They should demonstrate sensitivity for identifying and resolving the issues. Issues, within a team, can lead to a number of problems. The consequences include delay in project deliverables and deadline. It would also result in lack of commitment for executing the assigned tasks, with quality (Lynn Crawford, 2006). Interpersonal conflicts can lead to a situation, which brings a complete deadlock to the project management activities.

Problem-solving skills: For a successful project, risk analysis is done before the initiation of a project. The risk assessment outlines a number of risks, associated with a project. In spite of this activity, “Project Controls” are developed for managing the risks, which have not been identified (Lynn Crawford, 2006). In other words, there can be a number of problems, which may arise during the project execution phase. In order to deal with such situations, a project team must have problem-solving ...
