Spectroscopy refers to the dispersion of an object's light into its component colours (energies); it is essentially an interaction of matter and radiated energy. The word broadly talks about all the analytical tactics based primarily on the interface of light and matter. It is the study of spectral lines emerging from different atoms and molecules and is an important element of studying the chemistry of stars and interstellar clouds. This aids astronomers to infer the physical properties (temperature, mass, luminosity, and composition) of an object by dissecting and analyzing its light (Kenkel, 325-335).

Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy or ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV / VIS) is a spectroscopy of photons and spectrophotometer. It uses electromagnetic radiation (light) regions visible, ultraviolet station (UV) and infrared (NIR) of the electromagnetic spectrum. The radiation absorbed by the molecules from this region of the spectrum causes electronic transitions that can be quantified.

The instrument used in spectroscopy referred as spectrophotometer that allows comparison of the radiation absorbed or transmitted by a solution containing an unknown amount of solute, and one containing a known amount of the same substance. All substances can absorb radiant energy. The glass appears to be completely transparent, absorbs wavelengths that belong to the visible spectrum, the water absorbs strongly in the IR region. The absorption of UV radiation, visible and IR depends on the structure of molecules, and is characteristic for each chemical (Skoog et al, 131-140). The colour is due to substances that absorb certain wavelengths of white light falling on them. This spectrophotometry uses UV radiation in the field from 80 to 400 nm, especially 200 to 400 nm (near UV) and visible light from 400 to 800 nm, so it is useful to characterize the solutions in the ultraviolet-visible the spectrum.
