A Case Study on Children and Family

Introduction

In the case study we have seen Lisa who herself was a looked after kid shows negligence towards her three year old daughter Rihanna. Neighbors had complained to the service providers that the child had been playing in the garden with just a pamper and a t-shirt on, though it was an extremely cold day. The mother shouted too much on the daughter and they heard her crying a lot somberly. The neighbors also complained that they saw unknown men visiting Lisa frequently on which she told the social service provider who visited her that it should not be anyone's business to keep an eye on her and tell her how to treat her child.

It occurs when a child like Rihanna in our case, is not being given the good health care and physical facilities that are essential for her good growth and development. Child negligence can arise by not providing proper nutritious diet to the child, even not making him wear sufficient clothing and also ignoring many of his physical needs like what we saw was happening with little Rihanna . There have been incidents where infants have actually cut their hands with a sharp knife kept around. These things should be taken extreme care of and should be controlled. They all come under supervising the child negligently. Lisa, mother of three year old Rihanna also comes under the above category.

Emotional negligence is another widespread form of child ill-treatment that prevails in our society. Paying no attention at all to emotional needs, which include emotional security, devotion, love and an affection to the child is extremely unfair because it is this age when he wants to get all the love and affection to develop a good personality. The lack of fulfillment of emotional needs leave a huge gap in proper development of the child. Children demand love and care and want to make themselves understood but when they don't get emotional attention they develop psychological disorders like depression and nervousness in every little thing they do (Ainsworth & Bowlby, 1965) .

For that reason, families should surely take proper care of their child. The most essential element is to comprehend your child's nature, what he likes and dislikes, his interests and above all health. Give careful attention to each and every little ...
