Chemistry is operational in every aspect of our lives. From times immemorial, chemistry has had an effect on man and society in which he lives. The impact of chemistry on everyday life is so vast that it cannot be contained into words. For this purpose, chemistry should be taught in all faculties. In all our day to day routines and activities, like food, clothing, entertainment, work, relaxation, or basic household chores the involvement of chemistry is evident.
Every single of product that we use is a result of some chemical reaction. From hospitals, schools to industrial operations, chemistry is active everywhere. Chemistry is what explains to humans the behavior of chemicals i.e. materials of different composition in our world. Nothing can be done without the knowledge of chemistry. We need chemistry to produce food items (agricultural chemicals for growing crops), clothes (fabric production), and even to build our homes (in production of cement). In addition, chemistry is used to make medicines, which keeps everyone healthy and for the development of technologically sophisticated products (UMICH, 2011).
Thus, chemistry is an essential part of our lives because without it there would be no reaction, and therefore, no life. Like Dow said, "A better life through Chemicals", refers to as to how chemistry provides us a better quality of life. We find chemistry in everyday life, in the food we eat, the air we breathe, every product we buy, literally in every object we see or touch.
We can find the involvement of chemistry in our lives, in all common household items. It plays a crucial role in the understanding and discovery of materials the products are made of. Without chemistry, something as simple as having the satisfaction of drinking purified and healthy water might not be possible as even purification of water is dependent on chemistry.
Anything that we do during the course of a typical day involves chemistry in one way or another. Manufacturing of all products, regardless of their nature or composition employs a heavy involvement of chemistry. Every time we so much as eat or drink we witness chemistry at work. Because singlet oxygen is toxic to human cells, this property may make buckyballs applicable in cancer research. Francois Dieterich of UCLA is supplying samples of buckyballs to various medical researchers, at the City of Hope and elsewhere, to see if it is possible to concentrate the buckyballs within a tumor, feed these molecules with oxygen, and shines a light on them to add the energy. Then, he suggests, "you could produce singlet oxygen at that position to destroy the tumor," by killing its cells. Preliminary indications suggest that buckyballs, other fullerenes, or compounds made from such molecules are more effective in this quest than another substance tested called porphyrin. (Gary, 2003).
