ABSTRACT

The aim of this research study is to examine the intranet maintenance related issues in the organizations. To accomplish this aim the researcher selected Al-Jassim Group, which is a solely a Saudi owned organization. The main focus of this research study is to gain a better understanding of intranets as organizational innovations through identification of human and organizational issues in their ongoing operation and maintenance. The focus on “issues” is intended to uncover the unique dynamics and unresolved challenges of collectively constructed and operated information systems. A questionnaire survey has been carried out with the employees of Al-Jassim who are responsible for the implementation and maintenance of intranet within the organization. The survey findings indicate that the maintenance issues are effectively handled by the IT department of Al-Jassim Group. The survey findings indicate that the use of intranet has a positive influence on the work management of the organization. Work collaboration, business activities, decision making, communication and productivity of Al-Jassim Group gets improved by the use of intranet. The findings of this research study indicate that intranet maintenance related issues are effectively managed by the IT department of Al-Jassim Group. The findings of this research study also highlights that the use of intranet has improved the communication and performance of employees. By using intranet the employees of Al-Jassim group can effectively perform business activities as well as the work collaboration also improved. Hypothesis testing was carried out to analyse the impact of intranet maintenance on employee performance. The findings indicates that maintenance related problem of intranet are effective manage and it is a factor for organization success. Correlation analyses were also carried out to analyse the relationship among the selected variables of intranet. The findings indicate a strong relationship among the selected variables of intranet. Effective operation and management of the intranet requires balancing the adaptability and robustness of a distributed system with the need for efficient use of resources required in Al-Jassim Group, Saudi Arabia. This study illustrated some of the issues that were reported by intranet workers from the selected organizations, and described bureaucratic and ad hoc management strategies for addressing those issues. Findings were presented in which a bureaucratic (technical) management approach was highly effective in ensuring good intranet maintenance, and coordinating the activities of large numbers of distributed participants. However, bureaucratic management also tended to reduce employee discretion and motivation to learn and experiment with the technology.
