Abortion Debate

Introduction

Abortion is the interruption of pregnancy. During a therapeutic abortion, the embryo can be removed or expelled from the uterus, according to the method chosen. There are two types of therapeutic abortion: medical abortion and surgical abortion. During a medical abortion, the pregnancy is interrupted with drugs instead of surgery. This type of abortion can be performed at the early stage of pregnancy - up to seven weeks after the first day of last period. Surgical abortion is the abortion method most common in Canada and United States and is performed by a doctor in a clinic or hospital. Hence, called manual vacuum intrauterine, surgical abortion is to dilate the cervix (opening) of the uterus to gently remove the embryo or fetus and placenta tissue. However, women have an abortion during early pregnancy are as likely as other women to have a healthy baby later. Except in rare cases, serious complications, safe and legal abortion does not affect fertility (Malcolm, 355-365).

Discussion

There is a notion across the world which highlights a growing number of couples who want fewer children, and though frequent sex are forged in circumstances where a child is perceived as undesirable, it often happens that no contraception is used. Difficult access to contraception, contraceptives of poor quality, fear of side effects: these are some of the many reasons that explain the phenomenon. All methods have also a certain failure rate. Causing in all societies a number of unwanted pregnancies, and some of the women concerned decide to interrupt. Their reasons - first because of health problems or social groups - are similar around the world. The Alan Guttmacher Institute in New York estimates the number of abortions worldwide at 42 million (in 2003 against 46 million in 1995), twenty million are performed illegally under hazardous conditions, in most countries development (Ashok, 34-41).

Where abortions are done in secret and by non-professionals, they endanger the lives and health of women. In 2004, WHO (World Health Organization) estimated that about 70,000 annual deaths due to abortions facts wrong. In some countries development, urban clinics, two out of three beds are occupied by women with complications of botched abortions (Jones, 61-66).

However, there are some ethical principles that resolve around abortion. These ethical issues relate to the professional, sociological, economic, legal or political implications. Therefore, the physicians can only perform the abortion in certain conditions. Moreover, when a woman wants to get her baby aborted, it is essential for her to ensure the local laws before performing this act. This is important because physicians in the United States have to be licensed. Moreover, there are some states in the US that require a certain point of pregnancy at which the abortion must be performed. Besides this, there are also some states in which there is a requirement of one more physician who should be involved. It is only ethical for a physician who fulfills all these before he performs an abortion (Jones, 61-66).

However, abortion is not considered as ethical by most of the ...
