Absence Management

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to link the absence policies of my previous organization which was a public sector organization named National Audit Office. I have been working in a public sector organization previously and have worked in the Department for Business. This was a government department with almost 1600 direct employees, and also many other smaller departments. As the number of employees was very much higher in my previous job so the rate of absenteeism was also very high. Therefore, the main concern for the management was to manage the absenteeism policies to control the absenteeism. National Audit Office works for the audit of different financial statements of all the government organizations and agencies.

Brief description of the research project which is one on absence management

The main purpose of this research project is to understand the concept of absence management. Absence is the biggest problem in the large organizations and the companies take measures to control the absenteeism in the organizations. CIDP, which is Europe's largest HR and development professional body, has developed different policies for the absence management (Chartered Institute of Personnel and development, 2010). CIDP has conducted a survey from 573 organizations and based on the findings from such surveys, it has constructed the absence management policies. This report highlights that the rate of absenteeism is much higher in the public sector than the private sector. This can be applicable in my organization which is National Audit Office, as the arte of absenteeism was much higher in my organization. This report has presented different policies for the absence management, and one of these policies is targets and benchmarking. The employers use this policy in order to reduce the rate of absence in the organizations (Chartered Institute of Personnel and development, 2010). The other policies to manage the absence are an improvement of absence management policies, introduction of an attendance incentive scheme, reinforcement of existing employee absence and involvement of occupational health professional.
