Personal Relations Expertise

From 1984 to 2001, I developed professional administrative and interpersonal management skills to support a private firm for 5 years and two Federal Government agencies for over 15 years. After high school, I immediately enrolled into Barr Business School which was only a few blocks from my high school to become a Certified Secretary. I became interested in Barr Business because it was a few blocks from my high school and as I traveled back and forth to high school everyday, I literally worried about whom I was going to become and where I would end up. I became influenced and very impressed by the school as I watch how disciplined the students were when going in and out of the office building carrying books, sitting on the park benches studying or reading. This was nothing like high school. Since I could not afford to attend a traditional college, I decided to get certified in something I knew I would enjoy doing, could easily get a job, and could afford to pay for the tuition. It took me over a year to complete the Secretarial Certificate program, but it was well worth it. The school exceeded my expectations on the skills they taught and their job placement upon graduation. Besides learning typing, bookkeeping, and proofreading skills, I learned to improve my vocabulary, interpersonal and social skills as well.

Office Management

My first part time job was where I learned computer skills on the job because in 1984, most schools did not have the resources to provide computer training.

I performed bookkeeping skills by validating invoices, reconciled account balances, created spreadsheets and ran reports when requested. I later received a promotion to the account's receivable department as an accounts receivable clerk to record vouchers on ledger sheets to track expenses and profits from vendors.

Later, I decided to work for the Federal Government and performed multiple administrative functions. I learned effective professional communication and interpersonal skills and being a team player are very important.

My experience in office management has enabled me to perform a variety of professional administrative and management support services as well as utilize my interpersonal skills that were essential to my success. I have learned that all people are unique, having people skills is as important as administrative skills, and professional conduct is a must.

Personal Finance Aspects

When I completed Barr Business School, they offered me my first part time office job with the Times Journal as a professional Video Keyboard Operator (VKO) where I used a standard calculator to compute sales receipts and record them on a computer database to be incorporated with a more advanced accounting system. I learned computer skills on the job because in 1984, most schools did not have the resources to provide computer training. I was so elated that I learned how to type professionally at Barr Business, my computer skills were advanced. I performed bookkeeping skills by validating invoices, reconciled account balances, created spreadsheets and ran reports ...
