Reading and language arts are an important element of efforts by schools to reduce social inequalities and the function of the emancipation of education in general. It is a fundamental element to get a place in society. Children that attended pre kindergarten perform better in reading than students that did not attend pre kindergarten they have often lack the necessary language skills to take the place in society that it expected of them.

They often have a very low literacy level, because they are not proficient everyday language, children can easily participate in societal debate and they avoid writing because they realize that they make a lot of spelling mistakes. The acquisition of appropriate language skills can in no case be without learning to accomplish a set of cognitive actions a child from a disadvantaged background does not have to do - and do not acquire - in its own social environment. This represents a shift codes (language) or modes of communication between certain social and educational context. This shift should not be considered as a delay or disability for persons belonging to this social milieu. It is merely a difference, which - as we have already indicated - must be taken into account by the school in its efforts to pass the necessary language skills to children so that they make a place in the society.

Teachers should be aware that the code they tend to use corresponds to certain social groups only. It is important that this code is not considered the sole standard of learning and transformation of knowledge. Modes of communication and linguistic codes that are used in each societal group are evaluated and considered valid by the group and its members. These are the cultural and social differences that the school must take into account the objective of bridging the language gap, gap in academic achievement and, more generally in cognitive skills and others that children from disadvantaged backgrounds often present. As we noted earlier, children that attended pre kindergarten perform better in reading than students that did not attend pre kindergarten have academic achievement gap in reading and language are considered one of the major problems of education.
