Introduction

The paper discusses the concept of active citizenship with respect to Irish context. Moreover, it reveals that how an active citizenship can help to include newcomers in a changing Ireland especially in frame of community development and volunteering. The purpose of this paper is twofold. At first, investigate citizen participation in the reinvention of democracy as well as its expansion in Irish society regarding the development and volunteerism process.

The citizenship is committed to a fair and efficient civil society. Private commitment to the common good is to be preceded official action. We therefore want to strengthen civic engagement and charitable organizations sustainable. The nonprofit organization Active citizenship is the competence center for civic engagement for the local cooperative banks. Active citizenship is citizen participation in the civic life of a country, honoring the duties, and knowing and demanding their own rights and those of others (Maclachlan & Connell, 2000, pp. 202 - 220).

In Ireland, during the recent years the idea of active citizenship has been increasingly linked to the image of the defense of citizens' rights seen mainly in their capacity as consumers (Lopes & Kerr, 2005, pp. 50-56). In Ireland, the social activity works as a creative approach to labor and social-political activity, which resulted in a deep and full of self-realization. Activity is seen as reconciliation of social and political activity. Active approach to life involves in-depth knowledge, the comprehensive development ability and citizenship. Under the social activity is understood conscious activity, based on a thorough knowledge of the laws of social development.

Civic consciousness of personality is developing based on individual approach to life: awareness, evaluation of man's knowledge, morality and interests, ideals and motives, holistic assessment of himself as a leader, as a feeling and thinking being as understanding them yourself as a member of society, support socially important positions. Pupil understanding of their inner world of formation depends on his attitudes to themselves (Maclachlan & Connell, 2000, pp. 202 - 220). Civic qualities are influenced by the social environment and the individual's own efforts in a specific environment. A sense of love of country, a sense of responsibility for their actions and the actions of initiative, self-reliance - an important role in the upbringing of these qualities is the formation and development of students' needs and the positive motives related to these properties.

Background

Active citizenship implies interest in social work, initiative, diligence, awareness of personal significance, the presence of organizational skills. On the social and civic activities as a teenager (a fundamental component of active citizenship teenagers) can be judged by the way what position he holds in the discussion and evaluation of the team affairs, as he refers to the criticisms and evaluations. Active citizenship is characteristic of a dynamic society and in this sense, governments should take concrete measures to facilitate access to information and participation, promote awareness of the issues, strengthen civic participation and capacities of citizens and foster the involvement of civil society organizations (Blunkett, 2003, ...
