Introduction

Project Manager plays an important role in the project life cycle as he or she is the one who is responsible for the collection of requirement s, development, design, testing, deployment and lastly taking care of other activities like monitoring, controlling and managing resources. The position of project manager is based on a cycle that includes planning, organizing, monitoring and controlling of the initiated and upcoming projects for an organization. An effectiveness of a project manager can be analyzed from his or her result oriented approach and confidence. Project manager is an individual who has the capability to lead a team and keep them motivated so that an organization can accomplish the project objectives effectively. To become an effective project manager one needs to be focused on the team work as this is the key to successful completion of project. Project manager is a professional in the field of project management. An importance of project manager cannot be denied in any field as in all the fields new projects are introduced and for those projects, which are active needs to be managed by an responsible person and no one can be more responsible than a project manager. To become an effective project manager one needs to have positive attitude as it will be difficult for him or her to manage team with a negative attitude (Wysocki, 1995).

A project manager has to fulfil many responsibilities and duties. He or she has to keep the team motivated and should encourage them to take up challenges only then they would be able to rise higher and fulfil their individual objectives. Effective relationship building and interpersonal communication among the team members can be very helpful for a project manager in a long run as the team would form a positive attachment with him or her. The main roles that a project manager needs to manage accordingly are the roles of communicator, integrator, negotiator and proactive (Gray, 2002).

Communicator

A project manager is an individual who must spend at least 90% of the time in communicating his team on how to achieve the project objectives effectively and accomplish them within the deadline. A project manager can be only successful in managing a project if he or she is holds sound communicational skills.

Integrator

Through integration of tasks and activities of the project a project manager would be able to access the level of completion of project, project performance and controlling required effectively. As an integrator the project manager would be able to resolve the conflicts of his or her team, manage priorities, review and get the latest updates of the project that is executed and finally he or she would be able to maintain an effective communicational channel that is highly required.

Negotiator
