Identification of an Area of Professional Concern

This dissertation is focusing on the series of awful events that took place in London. The riots of August 2011 mainly involved youngsters who protested against police. The peaceful march of 6thAugust held in Tottenham was ended by looting and riots, initially in Tottenham and then in Tottenham Hale retail park. As the news about these disturbances and riots spread, it provoked fire of more riots on the following day, i.e. 7th August, in the districts of Enfield, Brixton, Islington and Wood Green, and the Oxford Circus in the London city (BBC World, 2011).

Next day witnessed an increase in riots, which spread all over the London city. The entire city was affected by riots, looting, violence and arson, with vast number of outbreaks in various districts of London. According to Adrian Hanstock, a Metropolitan Commander, these youngsters were not attacking on basis of any consent or were not backed any community (BBC World, 2011). Rather, these youngsters were actually attacking businesses, houses, properties and communities in order to create a huge panic, upset and criminality in the city. Furthermore, during this time, there were number of copycat criminal activities observed throughout the city.

Throughout the country, by being involved in the riots of august 2011, youngsters demonstrated significantly high level of disaffection and criminality. According to David Cameron, certain elements of the society are sick and not simply broken. This investigation will mainly be concentrating on the typical secondary schools in East of London. During this time, social media played a significant role in spreading these riots. Youngsters used social media for expressing their feelings and thoughts, favouring and condemning these riots. The youngsters involved in these riots were also taking social media as path for influencing and spreading rumours and violence to increase the violent acts. Many of them were arrested by police, who were traced spreading violence through social media.

Should we be implementing positive policies for difficult students, and the central focus on inclusion instead of exclusion?

Sub-Question:

What are the causes of disaffection and criminality among youth in London riots?

What is the concept of inclusion and exclusion in schools?

Justification of the Research

Investigation into this topic will attempt to analyse the conditions and causes of such type of alienated and criminal behaviour among youngsters during the riots of August 2011. This could be that the youngsters felt that they had nothing to lose and that they could not make anything out of their lives. The disaffection in their behaviour created lots of criminal issues. Gangs comprising of youngsters started to form, who were acting aggressively in order to show their anger and frustration against the lack of opportunities they have in their lives.
