Abstract

The researcher in this report has strived to analyze the overall performance of the Dollar Motors, starting from its history, SWOT Analysis and financial analysis of the company for the current fiscal year. In this research the researcher has also tried to deeply analyze the polices that are adapted by the company Dollar General Company

Introduction

Dollar general is considered as the largest retailer in the United States of America, currently the store comprises of 9961 stores in 39 states of. The stores of General Dollar are primarily situated in Southern, Southwestern states, Midwestern, and Eastern states of United States (Dollar General, 2012).

Our store offers broad range of products including domestic products, home bases products, clothes and others, in the store a customer will find all the national and international products at a subsidize price and we also offer discounts to our customer in purchase of national brands (Dollar General, 2010).

History of Dollar General

In the year 1939, J.L. Turner started a new company by the name of Turner and Son wholesale store. However, in the year 1955 the store was re launch by Kentucky Corporation under the name of J, L, Turner and Son Inc, in the year 1968 the name of the store was changed to Dollar General and was again reincorporated in year 1998 as Tennessee Corporation (Dollar General, 2012).

After changing the name of store become the public entity, as our common stock were traded in the NYSE stock exchange for almost 39 years. However, our stocks were blocked in the NYSE for two years as during this period we made a merger with a KKR company that is controlled by some investment company. In the year 2009 the stock of stores were again launched for public trading (Dollar General, 2010).

Dollar General has not reached this status easily as there were certain obstacles that came in the line of their growth, for instance at the age of 11, J. L. Turner lost his father in an accident and that force the young boy to leave his studies and work in the family farm to provide support to his family members. The boy was aware that he has not completed his education, but there was a strong self believe that encourage him to try different things (Dollar General, 2012).

J. L. Turner tried his hand in retail business but failed miserably, after that he got a job in a sales company where he worked for 10 years, however in the year 1939 with support of his son the father made a third attempt in retail business and this time the business was able to generate $2 million of sales.
