Domestic violence takes several forms such as physical, sexual, psychological abuse as well as the destruction of property and pets. The document provides data on the prevalence of domestic and the reasons behind it. Domestic abuse is so common that one in every four women is probable to experience it during her life. It also unveils the fact the women are commonly abused by people they know than the people they do not know. The breaking of their trust has psychological implications on the women that can last a lifetime.

The comprehensive documents covers not only the definitions and explanations of spousal abuse but throws light on the plight of men and women who are inflicted by pain and torture by their spouses. It also clarifies various myths that pertain to why women do not escape a romantic relationship that gives them nothing but misery. There are various logical reasons for it that go beyond financial dependence and insecurity. There is more to why a woman clings to this type of relationship than just monetary dependence and love.

Domestic violence and abuse is the most common cause of physical and mental health problems faced by women across the globe. This is common in both developing as well as developed nations. In the US too every fifteen seconds, there is a woman being subjected to any form of domestic and spousal abuse. One of the reasons behind the widespread prevalence of this type of abuse is the fact that majority cases of spousal abuse and domestic violence remain unreported.

The article discusses that the chances of spousal abuse are far more than the risk of divorce. This so because two people who have now become abusive were once bounded by a romantic relationship and were compatible. Another major reason why spousal abuse remain unreported is that people, especially the women victim blindfold themselves to reality, and continue to hope things will change.
