Problem

The research problem is to study the hurdles that the fathers face who provide nursing care to their disable children or children who require special health-care attention, and covers their experiences regarding the nursing care services provided to their children at homein the past.

The prominent increase in the number of children with complex health-needs cared at home is an important area of study for the field of nursing.

Study Purpose

The purpose of this study is determine the factors contributing to substantial increase in fathers' attention and nursing care towards growing numbers of children with complex healthcare needs.

Research Questions

Describe the roles fathers engage in within the family with respect to the child with complex health needs

Ascertain what fathers felt about their current roles

Explore what informal and formal support fathers currently receive or would like to receive in fulfilling their roles

Restated Questions

What are the roles that fathers have to engage within the family to consider the child with complex health-care needs

Determine what fathers perceive about their current roles

Find out the kind of support fathers receive at the present and would like to receive in the future, to fulfill their roles

Yes, the questions to conduct the research are stated broadly enough for a qualitative study. The questions cover all the aspects relevant to the issue of children with complex health-needs

Study Design

The qualitative method of Burnard's approach is used which provides a systematic method of developing a category system, and grouping together ideas of a similar sort (Lewis, 2008).

This research approached data gathering using the primary strategy, or the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Basically, the quantitative approach pursues facts and is employed when researchers desire to acquire statistical truth (Noyes, 2006).

The method used to conduct this research is Burnard's approach and principle from Heideggerian hermeneutical phenomenology. The Burnard's approach is an appropriate method for this research because it uses systematic way for the assessment of data gathered from the interviews (Welsh Assembly Government, 2006).

Conceptual Model/Theoretical Framework

The reviewer must extract the framework from implicit statements used in the literature review because the study involves the investigation of the experience of the respondents i.e. fathers with regard to what they feel about the nursing needs of their child with special health-care needs.

The framework is based on substantive theory because it uses various facts to research and elaborate the research questions such as the children's health policy has identified the changing family demographics and roles of fathers in caring for their children.

The framework clearly, identifies, define, and describe the relationships between the concept of the nursing needs of children who require special health-needs and the experience of fathers regarding the nursing services that are provided to their children.

The framework provides a useful body of knowledge in nursing as currently, the literature that addresses the issue of children's community nursing practice is relatively in a lesser quantity. Through this study, the way of providing nursing care to the children with special health-care needs at home can be further improved and made ...
