Japanese Culture and Technological (Robotics) Development

Culture of Japan

Japan's culture is the result of a historical process that began with the waves of immigration originating from the continent of Asia and the islands of the Pacific Ocean. The events of migration were followed by a strong cultural influence from China, and a long period of isolation from by the “Tokugawa Shogunate”. The era of Meiji started in the late nineteenth century accompanied by an immense foreign influence after the end of World War II. Due to this era, the Japanese culture diversified from the culture of other countries in Asia (Iwabuchi, 2002). In Japan, the concepts of "morality" and "desirable behavior" are more often practiced in families, schools and other corporate environments. The language of Japan is one of the remarkable contributors of Japanese culture (Iwabuchi, 2002).

Religion in Japan

Most of the residents in Japan are not affiliated with a particular religion. The people of Japan incorporate several features of religions in their daily lives. Most commonly followed religions in Japan are Buddhism, Christianity, and Shinto (Cronin, 2009). One of the most practiced religions in Japan is Shinto. This religion involves a polytheist performed in temples, which is based on four statements: tradition, love of nature, purification, and celebration of traditional festivals. The Christianity was introduced to Japan in 1549. Nevertheless, it is the least followed religion in Japan. Today, 1.4 million residents of Japan follow Christianity, including a high percentage of important persons in education and public affairs (Cronin, 2009).

Political and Government Structure of Japan

Currently, Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) is ruling the government. They also have not had the effect of persuading the main opposition Liberal Democrat Party (LDP) to call a halt to its strategy of refusing to cooperate with the DPJ in the Diet (parliament) a stance that has already forced the government to postpone the announcement of the fiscal-budget legislation for the year 2011/12(Robertson, 2010). Government of Japan follows a restrictive government culture limiting the role of every parliament member under the legislations set in the constitution. It follows a severe penalty structure if any member of the state is found involved in corrupt practices that harm the respect and position of the country at overall stance (Kashima et al., 2004). DPJ engulfs a large majority in the House of Representatives (the lower house of parliament), but it is in a minority in the House of Councilors (the upper house), where the impasse over budget legislation occurred.

History of Technology Development

Japan is characterized as a high-tech nation in the world. It is continually focusing on providing technological solutions to the world. It employs an assortment of strategies to protect the national heritage of technological development in the country. Government grants scholarships and funds to national students for creating advanced technology products (Wallace, 1999). The technological advancements of Japan in the segment of Robotics have revealed significant growth. Despite reports of the use of robots in specific areas, commentators have pointed to ...
