Apologia as a genre

The term apologia has been traced back to the ancient Greek origin phrase apologos, significance “a story”.(Miller,2004) It first appears in the Oxford English Dictionary as apoloyia—apo, significance “away,” and loyia, significance “speaking”—and is characterised as a speech in defense or as a vindication of a person.
