Introduction

Psychology is one subject, which has many definitions, some people might consider it boring, but according to me psychology is a subject of immense magnitude. As there are various branches of psychology, and all those branches are concerned with the behavior of the human brain. Brain is the most essential part of a human body, under perfect functional conditions. In case if the brain stops functioning properly, there are going to be major effects on a human social and personal life.

Social Work with Young Offenders

Social work refers to the social services offered to the people in ways like case work or direct work. Social workers work on the crisis intervention, meeting functional tasks of agency, problem-solving, changing behavior and psycho-social therapy. The skills required in social workers included counseling, assessment, advocacy, interviewing, group work, negotiation and assessment. The problem the worker faces determines the role and the method which needs to be applied. Social workers are also required to do community care. Community care refers to care of community services, ordinary housing, informal carers and others.

Issues of abused or neglected children were closely linked with young offenders. According to the Children and Young Persons 1969, difference was required to establish between abused and neglected children and young offenders. This provision removed the admission of a child for care who had committed an offense. Before this law, the young offenders were treated as needling care. Social Services Departments work for the rehabilitation of young offenders and their diversion.

Young offenders have found to face learning disabilities. Cognitive-behavioral orientations are utilized through group treatment approaches for the young offenders. For the young offenders, techniques of cognitive behavioral have been found effective. This targets the faulty thinking of the young offenders. Those young offenders who have academic delays have cognitive behavioral treatment less effective on them. The group treatment for young offenders, generally are between 8 and 12 weeks in time.
