Introduction

In the paper “Is Humanity Suicidal?” E.O. Wilson poses two questions in relation to the environmental dangers facing the Earth in the next fifty years. He posse's two questions which are as follows:

Are we racing to the brink of an abyss- environmentalist's see us as racing to the brink of an deep hole

We just gathering speed for a takeoff to a wonderful future? - Which he termed as exemptionalists.

From the above two opinions, I have supported the idea of environmentalist. According to them, we are moving towards dark deep hole, with no light in it.

Discussion

According to exemptionalists, the world is moving towards a competitive market and this competitive market will ultimately increase the level of human welfare. Exemptionalists support and embrace the values of a capitalistic model, they are of the view that capitalism would ensure that the world would be a place which will satisfy the need of the individual in the most efficient manner. But the reality is completely different (Gray, pp. 07).

The global free market is an American project. In some contexts, American companies have benefited from it, as free-markets have reached into hitherto protected economies. But this does not mean that global laissez-faire is a mere rationalization of American corporate interests.

A global free-market has no long-term winner. It no more works in the interests of the American economy than in any other. Indeed, in a large dislocation of world markets the American economy would be more exposed than many others. Global laissez-faire is not a conspiracy of corporate America. It is a tragedy - one of several that have occurred in the twentieth century - in which a hubristic ideology runs aground on enduring human needs that it has failed to comprehend (Gray, pp. 07).

Environmentalist also claims that now the economic theories have also admitted that the accomplishment of different economic objectives is dependent on environmental factors. In this literature the environmentalist proved that the environmental factors are necessary for the accomplishment of economic objectives. Here in this literature, the environmental theorists have analyzed the country economic performance keeping in view the fact about those countries natural resources (Radcliffe, search.proquest.com.ezproxy.apollolibrary.com, pp. 06-07)

According to this theory, the environmentalist claims that only those countries have been able to progress economically, who have the favorable environmental factors. Here, by favorable environmentalist factors they mean things like natural resources. For example-According to this theory, If the country who has more natural resources has the best chance of progressing in economical sense. Environmentalist also claims that If you care about the environmental aspect then you are most likely to progress. Environmentalist seeks to preserve all the factors of environment because all those factors do have economic value (Radcliffe, search.proquest.com.ezproxy.apollolibrary.com, pp. 05-20).
