Argument Essay on the Dream Act

Introduction

The "DREAM" bill was proposed by Democratic Senator Debin and Republican Senator Richard Lugar in 2001. DREAM means “non-American development of minors, Relief and Education Act". The relevance of The DREAM Act is that it seeks to make some of the children of illegal immigrants to gain legal status through the channels of the university or by serving military services. The 2012 election are approaching, the Obama administration pushed the "Dream Act" is the desire to attract the support of minority voters. Obviously, the Republicans will not be happy to see. Analysts pointed out that the Republicans now control the House of Representatives, considerable seats in the Senate (Humes, pp. 5).

Thus, it is a fact that many others stated that the DREAM Act, although moral legislation, must be enacted only as part of a complete migration reform. Under the Act, if the applicant before the age of 16, living in the United States continuously for more than five years, no criminal record, have finished high school and attending more than two-year university program, or join the army serving in the United States, can be obtained legal status. The Dream Act would help each year, about 65 thousand unregistered students graduated from high school, to adjust their status to legal resident conditioned for 6 years. The temporary residence visa would be granted only if the student will enter the United States before age 16. The favored student must have lived in America during the five years preceding the adoption of the law. The student must possess good moral character, demonstrate good behavior and have no criminal record. The student benefited ultimately earn legal residency if during the 6-year temporary residence obtain a college degree, and if during passage through the university maintained the same level of qualifications obtained in high school (Mills, pp. 220).
