Hieroglyphics

Egyptian mathematics dates back to about 2000 BC, although there is earlier evidence of numbers in the form of tags from around 3000 BC. The Egyptian number system was initially based upon a series of pictures/symbols known as hieroglyphics, whereby each number was represented by a hieroglyph.
