Renaissance Art

Renaissance art is generally referred to the sculpture, painting and decorative art work of a certain time period of the European history known as Renaissance. This time period was influenced by the Italian region and started around 1400. The sculptures and art work that this form of art involved were developed along with the changes in literature, music, science and philosophy. Renaissance art was perceived as the rebirth of the ancient traditions. There were a number of historic artists who did many important works in this form of art.

Description of the Art Work

The art work selected is named as Virgin, from the Annunciation. This art work is from the renaissance art work category. This art work is basically a sculpture which is around 56 inches in height. The sculpture was made up of glazed tetra-cotta. This sculpture gained popularity because of this material used to create this sculpture. This material was usually used in making altarpieces because it was more colorful, easier to move and less expensive in comparison with similar sculptures made up of marble. The colors used in this sculpture are white and yellow. The entire group of the Annunciation consists of three sculptures including Virgin Mary, Archangel Gabriel and the Holy Spirit. This sculpture demonstrates the sculpture of Virgin Mary in a very pious way. The down casted eyes of Virgin Mary and her hand across her breast demonstrate that she accepted the Incarnation with great humility.
