Article 1Summary of the article

The article” laying the Foundation for Positive Classroom Behavior” by Pearson Education Development Group talks about issues faced by teachers mostly. This issue is known as classroom behaviour. This is the trickiest issue that teachers of 21st century are facing. Inappropriate behaviour leads to waste of time and brings an environment in the classroom that is not apt for learning. Behaviour management issues that teachers face in this context are of huge concern.

One important point to tackle behavioural problems is to promote positive behaviour even before the problem is likely to arise. The article provides certain guidelines for it. A poll conducted by teachers depict that discipline is a serious problem in school. Teachers face not only the challenge of managing their students' behavior while teaching the curriculum. They also face many conflicting theories about how to manage it. The logical consequences, behavior management and assertive discipline, discussed in this article include thinking about the approach as how to deal with this behavioural management issue.

Building strategies to promote positive classroom behaviour is encouraged. Visualizing all the challenges that are possible along with making expectations crystal clear since the start how children should behave is discussed in this article as a guideline for teachers to mange such issues. Apart from this other guideline includes explaining positive behaviour, teaching them how to respect others and encourage and boost those who are trying as this will further motivate others towards a positive behaviour. For many students, it is reinforcing any teacher's attention, including that which is of critical.

Constantly warning students to be seated, the teacher is actually reinforcing the same bad behavior. The problem is alleviated when you start to ignore students who are out of place and devotes his attention to working on the job. Teachers can encourage many behaviors, both positive and negative, simply paying attention to them.Using the attention of the teacher to change their behavior in class involves that teachers should experience through a series of following steps.

In a first step involves carefully noting disruptive behaviors of students (up without permission, hitting other kids, no homework.

In the second phase, debate and agree with students about the rules to be observed in class, explaining clearly what should and should not be done. However, you can see that despite the teaching of the rules, it is likely that the misconduct persists.

In a third phase, the rules regularly remind students of the systematically ignoring inappropriate behavior. With this measure, eliminates the teacher's attention as a source of reinforcement of behavior. This procedure may also have little effect.

The fourth phase introduces a decisive factor. Here, teachers begin to dispense praise and attention towards students in order to motivate them. This is achieved by saying things like: "I like the way you work, so quietly." Continues to frame the rules and ignoring these violations. The combination of rules ignoring the problem behavior and praising positive behavior reduced disruptive behavior (Pearson Education Development Group, 2000)
