This paper aims to critically analyse 5 articles. The subject of these articles revolve around the topic that how organisational changes influences the psychological contracts. Many researchers have investigated on this topic. However, the main purpose of this paper is to research several other articles written on this subject to gather more literature in order to reach to a confined conclusion that how organisational changes has a great impact on psychological contracts. Discussion
The first article that shall be discussed in this paper is “The impact of organizational changes on psychological contracts” written by Charissa Freese and Rene Schalk. The major elements examined in this article are exchanges of obligations and intensions between the employer and employee and further, exchanges of organisational commitment to turnover in a casual model.
The approach used in this article in terms of methodology by Freese & Schalk is assessment through questionnaires. They assessed 45 health care workers psychological contracts in a three wave longitudinal method over the time period of one year. The aim of conducting the survey was to determine that how health care workers perceive their obligation in terms of their commitment to career development, job content, organisational policies and rewards, social atmosphere and the extra role obligations. In modern times, the greatest challenge is to meet the requirements of employees and the organization as a whole. In past many influential changes have been noted in the professional bonding between organisation and employees. There are various reason that are causing this change, however, the major reason in these changes is increase in competition all over the world, fast pace advancement in technology, and changes in organizational or corporate culture.
As mentioned above there are various factors that determine the perceive obligations and commitment of the person towards his firm, however, linear structure model is used in testing the change in psychological contracts and other variable. Further, it also explores the relationship of independent and dependent variables over a given period of time.
However, when the survey was conducted, it revealed that the changes in the organization are negatively affecting the breach of obligations that are perceived by the health care workers, while the obligations that are perceived by the workers are not affected at all.
This research regarding the impact of organizational changes on psychological contracts is highly valued. However, it is reported in the article by Freese & Schalk that the longitudinal research focusing on the area of influence of changes in organization on psychological contracts is virtually nonexistent.
