The package travel, package holidays and package tours 1992 regulation were introduced by European Directive 90/314/EEC. The main objective was to end the lack of rights a consumer has a contract package and was approved by the United Kingdom on December 31, 1992. The aim of the regulation on package travel is primarily to define minimum standards for consumer information and requirements formal contracts that apply to package travel, to lay down rules mandatory applicable to contractual obligations (cancellation, modification, liability of the organizers and retailers of package tours, etc.) and achieve true consumer protection in the event of insolvency or bankruptcy of the organizer of the package tour, some of them are as follows:Consumer information:

The laws adopted by Member States to comply with Directive were carefully examined by the Commission. It should be noted this regard that many of the provisions of the Directive leaves a large room for interpretation to national legislators. Thus, approaches adopted by the Member States to transpose the Directive (and levels of protection of consumers' economic interests) vary considerably. However, the Commission has only in rare cases found that the directive had not been properly transposed into national legislation of a Member State.
