Collecting and Using Business Data

Collecting and Using Business Data

Task 1

A description of the business problem

This paper is based on an investigation of a real world business problem. After an in-depth of the problem a review of potential data sources for statistical analysis is presented. The findings of the statistical analysis will provide an insight about the solution to the business problem in this case. The problem shows that in the spell of hot water demand for bottled water has increased. This led the manager of the water producing company to increase to production of bottled water. As the production increases, the manager wants to check out whether the process of filling one gallon with the bottle is working properly or not. The approximate litters that can be filled in a one gallon of water bottle are 3.75, so he decided to conduct the testing of volume of water bottles.

A review of potential data sources concluding with a justification of your selected data sources.

It is important to be able to rely on the information that has been identified, whether printed or electronic. We must exercise critical thinking to evaluate the quality and it must be borne in mind that any information of unknown origin should be excluded a priori. Documents submitted by the company's departments are initially evaluated and matched the field of specialization of the company and its editorial policies. To assess the quality and relevance of information, we have taken into account the reputation of the department. For the purpose of this analysis, the potential sources include:

a)Daily bottle production sheets-The production sheets have provided us the daily production of water bottles by the company.

b)Quality Assurance report generated through machines-The reports provided by the QA department, tells us about the deviation of water bottles filling criteria.

c)Supplier return requisitions-These will provide the data of water bottles return by the suppliers due to defects. Taking into account the importance of the sources of information is also necessary to know how to reach them. Information systems can come to the primary sources that monthly reports and production sheets.

A review of potential analyses with a discussion concluding with a justification of your selected analyses.

A random sample of 75 bottles has been chosen in order to obtain a good result. The reason why random sampling is done in this case is that a random sample is a sample taken from a population of units, so that every element of the population has an equal probability of selection and that different units are selected independently. There are two important characteristics of a random variable, its values and the probabilities associated with those values. To analyze the data we have applied several statistical techniques that can measure that whether the filling process of one gallon of water is working properly or not. We have found out descriptive statistics which would give us the overall information about our sample, and then we have found out the frequency ...
