Purpose of the survey

The purpose of this survey is to know the attitude and the perception of the society regarding drug addicts and to make an attempt to correct the misconceptions the society attributes towards them. The term drug addicts refer to the group of people who abuse drugs as a result of being addicted. Drug addiction has experienced an increase in the society with the passage of time. It is an issue that has highly adverse effects on the society.

Drug addiction is defined as use of illegal drug or medicine. Once someone gets addicted, he or she may lost control over the use of the drug, and will become an addict of that drug. It is commonly perceived that drug addicts start using drugs in casual or under peer-pressure, but with the passage of time, the person becomes an addict. As a result of drug addiction, the addict can lost control over his actions, which results in severe problems regarding his or her mental and physical health, employment and relationships with the family and society (www.mayoclinic.com).

People usually have a very harsh attitude towards drug addicts. Most of the people even don't know that why and how a person becomes a drug addict. They do not want to talk much about them. It is usually thought that drug addicts do not have any moral principles. Another common misconception is that the addicts can quit addiction simply by having a strong willpower to do so. In other words, they believe that drug addicts themselves are not serious in abandoning the habit of addiction.

Drug addiction is disastrous to both the individual as well as the society. It can destroy the life of the addict. Drug addicts require special attention and treatment to cure their addiction problem. Recent studies have shown that addiction is a disease and requires a lot more than strong willpower of the addict to cure. Since addicts lose control over their mind and thinking, quitting addiction becomes much difficult for them in spite of strong will to do so (www.drugabuse.gov).
