B-Lactam (Cefuroxime)

B-LACTAM (CEFUROXIME)

B-Lactam (Cefuroxime)

Mechanism of Action and Resistance

Cefuroxime is a first generation Cephalosporin antibiotic. Its international name is Cefuroxime and its active ingredient is Cefuroxime sodium and is composed of dry matter 0.25, 0.75 and 1.5 g vials or ampoules. It acts as bactericidal and has a broad antimicrobial spectrum.

Cefuroxime is highly active against Gram-negative microorganisms (Escherichia coli and Haemophilus, Salmonella, Shebelle, enterobacteria, Proteus mirabilis, and gonococci). It is also active against gram-positive bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci).

Resistant to beta-lactamases

Cefuroxime is not active against different types of Pseudomonas, most strains of enterococci, many strains of Enterobacter cloacae, methicillin-resistant staphylococci, and Listeria monocytogenes. ...
