This population is known as the "silent generation" for the way they do business focused and quiet. They are very private individuals have put in their time in the office and go home to their families. Traditionalists will come from the industrial era, in which individuals have remained with their companies through retirement. In other words, this group is fiercely loyal. Traditionalists prefer to be communicated with by means of formal written communication (Matal, 2010).
Baby Boomers (1946 - 1964)
They put their time with their companies to acquire extensive knowledge and now occupy most of the higher-level positions. Understand that this generation needs to be respected for their years of experience and expertise. Communication with Baby Boomers is better received when done in person with body language and a direct style. This group embraces change and can suggest better ways to improve processes. Baby Boomers may be your employees more challenging, however, because of their extensive experience and expertise to their suggestions will be worth your time.
Generation X (1965 - 1980)
Gen X is more independent of the four generations working in the workplace. They are entrepreneurial in their thinking and their approach to your career. Gen X wants independence. It may work for a company, but there is no company loyalty. Communicating with the X should be direct and concise. They are constantly looking for faster and better ways to complete their tasks in order to have more time available outside of work. The group is currently aged between 31 and 46 years of age, in the midst of raising children. They want flexible work schedules to make room for their family life (Gayeski, 2006)

Generation Y (1981 - 2000)
They are modern, high-tech, fast moving and fun. This new group entering the workplace will increase your environment. They inject energy because they are extremely optimistic about the future. Gen Y is the group that has grown with the team sport where everyone participates and everyone is rewarded. Communicating with Gen Y employees should be by e-mail, text or intranet. It is important not to talk down to them by referring to their inexperience (Matal, 2010).
