U.K. Retail Banking comprises individual Customers, Home Finance, localized enterprise, Consumer Lending and Barclays economic Planning. This cluster of enterprises aspires to construct broader and deeper connections with its Personal and Local Business clients through supplying a broad variety of goods and economic services. Personal Customers and Home Finance supply get access to present account and savings goods, Woolwich labeled mortgages and general insurance. Consumer Lending presents unsecured lends and defense goods and Barclays Financial Planning presents buying into recommendations and products. Planned amalgamation with ABN AMRO

In March 2007 Barclays broadcast designs to amalgamate with ABN AMRO, the biggest bank in the Netherlands. However, on 5 October 2007 Barclays broadcast that it had left behind its tender, citing insufficient support by ABN shareholders. Fewer than 80% of portions had been offered to Barclay's cash-and-shares offer. This left the consortium directed by Royal Bank of Scotland free to advance with its $99.9 cents counter-bid for ABN AMRO.

To assist investment its tender for ABN AMRO, Barclays traded a 3.1% stake to China Development Bank and a 3% stake to Tease Holdings, the buying into arm of the Singaporean government.

Also in 2007 Barclays acquiesced to buy Equifirst Corporation from Regions Financial Corporation for $225 million. That year furthermore glimpsed Barclays Personal Investment Management declaring the closure of their procedure in Peterborough and its re-sitting to Glasgow, lying off almost 900 constituents of staff.
