The objective of the literature review is to analyze the secondary researches on the battered wife syndrome and category wise review of the alternative literature that has already been published.

Introduction

Battered wife syndrome is a symptom complex of personal and psycho reasoning abuse of a woman by her husband. Although it may happen in up to 10% of Canadian women, it mostly proceeds unrecognized. Such women often present with vague somatic complaints, for example annoyance, insomnia and abdominal pain. Thus, the diagnosis can generally only be made by inquiring nonthreatening open-ended questions (Noonan 2000). Most women stay with their husbands because they are aghast of them. Stages of Battered Wife's Syndrome

There are usually four phases in the battered wife's syndrome.

Stage One-Denial

Stage Three-Enlightenment

Stage three of battered wife's syndrome happens when a battered woman begins to realize that no one warrants to be beaten. A battered woman comes to glimpse that the beatings she obtains from her colleague are not justified. She furthermore identifies that her colleague has a grave problem (Dutton 2000). However, she resides with her abuser in a try to hold the connection intact with wants of future change.

Stage Four-Responsibility
