Behavior Modification Techniques

Introduction

The different behavior modification techniques are based on the behavioral model. It is not easy to define the concept because it brings together theoretical models and therapeutic techniques from different intervention areas. Behavioral modification approach focuses on normal and abnormal behavior activities that are measurable or evaluable (Cooper, 2008). The fundamental premise of the behavioral psychology asserts that behavior is primarily a result of learning that takes place in the social environment of an individual.

Behavior

Behavior is a way a man behaves in his daily life that influences his actions. Behavior refers to the actions of people in relation to its surroundings or with the world of stimuli. It is divided into three areas: mind (includes activities such as thinking, dreaming, etc.); body (eating, talking); and the external world (attending a meeting, talking with friends etc.) (Cooper, 2008). Human behavior is considered formal when the subject's behavior respects a valuable set of rules of a society or community (Kentridge, 2007). 

Target Behavior

Majority of times, people are unable control their behavior with respect to factors that creates stress (Kentridge, 2007). In many instances, people lose control on their behavior. Human beings react differently in different situations depending on their mood and involvement in the situation (Cooper, 2008).

Being a human being, I also display behavioral characteristics that present a negative prospect of my personality. My behavior that I would like to change is over-reacting in some situations. Anger captures my behavioral mood; I lose my temper in anger and start shouting and yelling at other people. My aggression and stress level increased remarkably due to this kind of behavior. Most of the times, I do not even know what I am saying. When my anger gets controlled, I realized my mistake that it is not worthy to react in aggressive manner. Therefore, my target behavior is ...
