History

Ice cream is something that is known as a lovable treat that nobody can resist. Though, the most popular flavor in United States is Vanilla, there are numerous number of varieties and manufacturers of the Ice cream. One of the great and largest contender and the manufacturer for this industry is Ben & Jerry. The brand name reflects the image of funky flavors like Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia and Groovy Vermont vibe. The founder of Ben & Jerry, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were known to be the childhood friends and they belong to Brooklyn. These best friends were born in the same year 1951 in New York City. Ice cream is something that runs in their veins since their early mature age, Ben use to drive the ice-cream truck and use to provide the various colleges in the Northeast during his senior high school. He left his studies in the middle and worked for the farm in Adirondack of New York and learnt the art of making ice cream. Jerry the second partner started his creativity in a traditional manner he completed his high school and moved to Oberlin College to study the medicine, he was the ice cream scooper there in the cafeteria of the school. He completed his degree and returned to New York and shared an apartment with Ben in Manhattan while applying for the medicine vacancies and was trying to choose medicine as a profession. But after being unsuccessful in the field of what he had studied he planned to go for another option to survive and earn the money on his own. He discussed it with Ben about his extraordinary specialization in ice cream scooping and Ben accepted the offer to start to sell the homemade ice cream, they founded “Ben & Jerry” in 1978 having the specialty in manufacturing flavored and frozen yogurt, ice cream and sorbet.

Currently Ben & Jerry has more than hundred of flavor that has the premium market globally out of those hundred some are Butter Pecan, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Dough Strawberry Cheesecake, Cherry Garcia, Fudgy Brownies Raspberry, Fudge Chunk, Chubby Hubby, Chunky Monkey etc. every flavor has its own tendency to capture the market s per the expectations of the customers.
