We inquire contemplating the criminal: “How much 'time' did he get?” And we us muse: “How much 'time' organise I have left?” Our tunes contemplate this theme. We vocalize that “time advances on,” and at the equal time lament that “time has stood still since we've been apart.”1
Biblical Times as in evaluation to Modern Times
The idea of time has been problematical for philosophers. There is even considerable contention amidst biblical scholars as to unquestionably how “time” is committed in the divine conceive of things. One thing is certain, the Scriptures make a distinction between the “temporal” and the “eternal.” Paul states that the things that are glimpsed are “temporal” but the things not glimpsed are “eternal” (2 Cor. 4:18). In explaining God, the psalmist declares: “. . . from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. . .” (Psa. 90:2). Yet, in the equal context, of man it is said: “The days of our years are threescore years and 10 . . .” (v. 10). Time noticeably does not unrest to God and man in the equal way.2
Eternity is endless, but time is considered by a “beginning” and an “end.” The Bible commences with these words: “In the beginning God believed the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). Jesus one time said: “But from the beginning of the creation, Male and feminine made him them” (Mk. 10:6).
By way of compare, in some sense there will be an end. In the Parable of the Tares, Christ said that the “harvest” comprised the “end of the world” (Mt. 13:39). Elsewhere the Lord announced: “He that turns down me, and gets not my sayings, has one that referees him: the saying that I conversed, the equal will referee him in the last day”3 (Jn. 12:48).
In an epistle to the saints at Corinth, Paul advised the idea of the future resurrection of the body, which, he affirmed, will occur at the time of the Lord's “coming” (1 Cor. 15:23). In that addition the apostle writes: “Then reaches the end, when he will consign the kingdom to God . . .” (v. 24).
Clearly there is a span, an era, between the “beginning” and the “end,” which, for require of a better signal, is called “time.” Carl F.H. Henry distinuished time as “the divinely believed sphere of God's sustaining and redemptive work, and the arena of man's deduction on his way to an eternal destiny” (p. 524).
Some folks, both of the very vintage world and in the up to designated day era, have analyzed “time” in a sense that is distinct from what is depicted in the Bible. In the Scriptures, time is comprised as a linear know-how, while many have contended that time is cyclic, that is, it enlists a sequence of revolutions that occur afresh and again. Let us gaze at this closer.
