Teaching Biography

My name is Marcin Jankowski and I am a lecturer in Dental technology at Lambeth College, London, United Kingdom. I have the responsibility of training future dental technicians and providing them the right knowledge to apply it in construction of dental appliances for patients and making them qualified professionals in this field. I have realized that training individuals in this field is very difficult and it needs a lot of preparation, patience and commitment; but seeing the seeing my students growing and excelling in this field is the best reward I can get.

It was not my primary choice to become a lecturer in this field of dental technology as I have previously taught English as a foreign language to primary and secondary level students; but I did not have the right skills to overcome some of the issues in problematic areas. I discovered my interest in teaching when I first helped my college mate to catch up with all the college work that she missed because of her illness. This task was a bit challenging for me but at the same time it was also rewarding when my friend managed to complete her course and passed her examinations. After this, I decided that becoming a teacher will be the right career for me and I took admission in the right university which would provide me the right education to excel in my career.

I started my bachelor degree course at the Adam Mickiewicz University Teacher Training College in Poznan, Poland in 1999 and studied English as a modern language till the next four years. In 2003, I began my Masters degree at the same university in the field of teaching and completed it in 2006. Te next year in 2007, I decided to make my professional career in the field of dental technology and continued my four year training (including one year BTEC National Award in Dental Technology and three year Foundation degree course) at De Mont Fort University. This training course was also accompanied by work experience at professional laboratories which helped me to learn the appropriate skills.

I experienced a number of mentors during the course of work experience in various laboratories; some had the ability to deliver knowledge in an interesting and logical way whereas other did not have this ability. The most important thing that I learned during these training sessions is that teaching the subject of dental technology demands the right attitude and skills because it is very important to make the students understand the lecture and build confidence in them so that they could incorporate the teachings in their professional life and become knowledgeable and skilled professionals.

On basis of my qualification and experience of various dental technology trainings, I applied for the position of lecturer in dental technology. Now, I have been working as a dental technology lecturer from one year and the work has been intensive and challenging throughout the first year, but it feels good to see my students learning ...
