Knowledge Map

A knowledge map is a graphical representation of a body of knowledge in a domain. It differs from a textual representation of its structure that cannot be serialized. It takes the form of a network graph. Indeed, in a knowledge map, knowledge represented schematically and two-dimensional form of a network of nodes and arcs. The nodes represent important ideas or knowledge, and arcs, the relationships (or links) that the designer of the card draws between knowledge (Alavi, 2001, pp. 107-136).

Knowledge (or nodes) is represented by a word or set of words, while relations (or edges) represented by simple lines or arrows so as to give direction to relationships. One can also place text labels on the lines, so as to specify further the nature of linkages between knowledge (figure1, Knowledge Map).Logic for Design of the Knowledge Map

The logic behind choosing this knowledge map is the fact that, all kinds of knowledge is being gathered in one place. This means that all and any knowledge related to the organization can be easily accessed by the employees through their accessibility of this knowledge map. Therefore, it can be said that the logic behind employing this map is to make things easily accessible for everyone (Alavi, 2001, pp. 107-136).

The Reasoning for chosen Design

The triad “node-arc-node” form what is called a proposal. The proposal is the basic unit of meaning of a knowledge map. This may be judged valid or invalid in a given context. For example, a link labeled is a knowledge could link with another called knowledge map to another acquaintance called external representation of knowledge. Triad map of knowledge is an external representation of knowledge which means that it is then a proposal. This proposal is valid (although the converse is not valid).

This type of knowledge representation designated by various terms: concept map (probably the term most used to date), map or semantic network (semantic map), network of knowledge (knowledge network) or knowledge model (KM model). There are some nuances between these representations, but we adopt, for our part, the more generic term knowledge map, which we define as: “A knowledge map is a representation of a field of knowledge in the form of network graphic objects, developed by a representation agreement predetermined”.How it is Changing in the Current Environment

It is changing the current environment of the organization dramatically. This is because, at the current time there is no database for managing knowledge at one place. This means that accessing the knowledge now is much harder compared to accessing it when the knowledge map is in place.Any areas of organizational knowledge you think cannot be captured by this type of mapping.

The knowledge map constructed above has all important elements of knowledge, ranging from experience, to information and to processes (Figure 2, Data modification). These being stored at one place and are then accessible for use by everyone (Addicott, 2006, pp. 87-94).
