Transferring The Current Blackboard Of UMass Boston To A New Version Of Blackboard

Problem Statement

To transfer the current Blackboard of Umass Boston to a new version of Blackboard, in order to cover the threat that posed by the fact that Blackboard Vista will soon no longer be supported or maintained. It is going to be dead around 2013. No management system would exist if planning not done to move now. Blackboard Vista is a Web-based e-learning platform, so the operating system independent. The contents can be accessed using a browser with Internet access from any computer. For access, you need a valid password or mailbox account, which allows you to log in. There are indications that suggest that once the Blackboard Vista will be dead, there will be lots of issues in the management system, due to which it becomes necessary to plan a new version of the Blackboard that will be able to replace the current version called the Blackboard Vista. Therefore, this study being done in order to study the process, consequences, etc. of the transferring of the current Blackboard of Umass Boston to a newer version of Blackboard (Farquhar, 2011).

Mission Statement

To provide a Web-based e-learning platform to the students that will be better than ever before, with an improved learning experience, which will allow students to access their accounts. It will be much friendlier in terms of usage for students and will make all the processes easier, and hence will also save time.

Goals and Objectives

The goals of this project are to cover the threat that been posed by the fact that the current version of the Blackboard, which is known as Blackboard Vista is soon going to be dead and replaced by a newer version, which will be called the Blackboard Learn. If this project not conducted now, than there is a threat that once the current version is dead, all the data from all the courses that are on the current version right now might be lost. Therefore, the goal is to introduce the newer version of the Blackboard, which is called the Blackboard learn, as soon as, it is launched, in order to transfer the current Blackboard of Umass Boston to a new version of Blackboard. This process will take some time as the data that are to be retrieved is from all the courses in the previous five years. Therefore, it is important to introduce it, as soon as, it is launched in order to complete the process of transferring the data from the current version of Blackboard of Umass Boston to the new version of Blackboard in time and before the current version of Blackboard is dead.
