Part 1: Manufacturing Process Planning

Deo Motors is taking a very different approach to that of competitors such as General Motors when manufacturing hybrid vehicles and hybrid plug. The company expects that this difference would provide an advantage within a potentially volatile market for such vehicles.

Deo Motors's strategy will allow its consumers to easily switch between conventional gasoline cars to and a range of different kinds of hybrid vehicles such as hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles. Instead of creating a single plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Deo Motors plans to create and make publicly available a number of options for electric propulsion in all selling cars worldwide (Weerakkody, 2010).

Although in the past other automakers, have dedicated themselves to convert conventional models in hybrid cars, Deo Motors plans to do this same thing but to a larger scale, making it an option for more than 10 different models. In addition, plans include options and plug-in hybrid electric (Weerakkody, 2010).

Deo Motors will begin the design and assembly of key components for hybrid and electric vehicles. Beginning by making batteries for its next-generation hybrids, to be launched in the near future, rather than buying from outside suppliers, Deo Motors will be planning to all the components of hybrids on its own to increase efficiency and maximize the profits. However, during the first few months of the launch of the company, Deo Motors will not produce all its battery designs on its own, but it will be working with partners to produce its first hybrid vehicle, such as an electric version of the Deo Motors Transit Connect which goes on sale later this year (Beard, et al., 2011).

The main advantage is that Deo Motors has in manufacturing electric versions of conventional vehicles and design its own batteries, is given by the cost savings. The fact that the body, wheels, suspension, etc., are the same will allow Deo Motors to achieve higher order volumes than it would if you simply should ask enough to supply a hybrid or electric model (Beard, et al., 2011).

Moreover, Deo Motors has planned to design its hybrids to use the same boards used to control electronic engine systems of conventional vehicles. In hybrids, the electronic board controls the charging and discharging of the battery. As a result, Deo Motors will be able to place an order of between half a million and a million of these drivers. That is a level that no one else in the industry can achieve so far, because of the relatively low volume of sales of hybrids (Weerakkody, 2010).

Deo Motors will be using a smart approach to reduce expenses associated with its plug-in hybrid. Some automakers, including GM, have chosen to make plug-in hybrids that are significantly different from its hybrid vehicles, so do not share many common parts. However, the plug-in hybrid vehicle will possess the same electric motors, electronic components, control systems and hybrids normal transmission, allowing large scale production of these parts. The only significant difference is given by the battery and ...
